Reading/Speaking - World Happiness Report - Happiest Countries on Earth
This is a full day activity.
Begin with warmer - what are the top 10 things that bring happiness, have students create their own lists of what brings them happiness ranked from one to ten, give examples like love, money or family. Have students compare their lists and justify their answers - are there any common ideas?
Then ask students which countries they believe are the happiest in the world? Students usually respond with countries like USA. Then show the article from wikipedia with the list of happiest countries in order, students always like finding their own countries on the list.

Students then do the reading handout attached. All answers to vocabulary and reading comprehension are on the third page of the reading, this is geared towards intermediate 1 or intermediate 2 students, the language has been reworded to suit them. This is an adaptation from the actual world happiness report website.
Lastly assign students in class in pairs one of the top ten countries from the list to research and explain in their own words to the class why their country is one of the happiest countries.
