Nur Mani (The Spirit of Rice)
This folklore was based on the renowned spiritual guardian of paddy, Nur Mani. Nur Mani was a female spiritual guardian of rice that the Bajau community summoned during a specific ritual known as Ngeliun. If she was treated well, she would nurture the crop to produce abundant harvest. People often praised her in their songs and chants so she would always be pleased. Nevertheless, if Nur Mani became upset and felt neglected, she might abandon the paddies and this could cause terrible incidents to befall the place such as failed crops. There are several questions in the material. This was written by Sirhajwan Idek. It is also available in ISL Collectives.
