The sentence Writing Machine
Working with the sentence-making machine adds an element of fun to the important but rather dry business of reviewing the previously learned tenses and their respective signal words, the irregular verbs, and the formation of questions and negative statements. I regularly made the machine part of one of the six prescribed exams in class seven, with results that convinced me I should continue to employ this curious learning device. One can, of course, employ the sentence-making machine at an earlier stage, before past perfect or present perfect progressive have been introduced, for example, if one considers the complete machine to be too unwieldy.
