Reversi: "although" and "in spite of"
Reversi or Othello board game practicing “although” and “in spite of”. The 64 cards are double-sided, one side is red, the other side is white. The sentence on the white side is analogous to the sentence on the red side, but using a different conjunction. You can either print two pages at a time, each one on each side of a hard sheet of paper, or you can print them separately and then glue the two pages together, each one on one side of a single sheet of cardboard. Then you need to cut the cards out (which is a bit of work). One side of each card has a sentence using either “although” or “in spite of”, e.g.: " The car is still reliable although it is very old.", the other side has a sentence using the other conjunction, e.g.: " The car is still reliable in spite of being very old." Students play reversi with the cards, and whenever they´re going to turn one over, they have to say what´s on the other side before they turn it over. If they get the sentence right, they can leave the card turned over, if not, they have to turn it back, with the original side facing up. Enjoy!
