Group-Exercise for understanding narrative perspective: reading the novel 13 Reasons Why
This is based on a 90-minute lesson where we look at the narrative voice in the novel "13 Reasons Why". It is a group exercise with different text excerpts for each group, depending on their level of proficiency. Knowledge of the novel is advisable, but you can also just use the different perspectives given in the text excerpts (which are re-written from the original) to show how the different narrative voices work and how they can be identified.
There are some sentence-starters at the end to help some of the weaker students get started with their observations.
