Figurative Language: Similes & Metaphors - Wildfire
In 1997, psychologist Arthur Aron conducted an experiment to see if strangers could fall in love. Strangers were arranged in pairs and asked to work through 36 questions and then stare into each other’s eyes for four minutes. For a transcript of the initial questions the strangers were given, click here: http://sunshine-parenting.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Arons-36-Questions.pdf
Aron’s experiment worked. Six months later two of his participants were married. These activities are based on the music video by the band Seafret for a song called Wildfire. It is a 2015 recreation of this experiment.
I loved the concept of this so much, I developed an ESL worksheet based on this idea.
Activities include identifying figurative language (simile, metaphor), dictionary work and a speaking task. Intended for older teens and adults.
