In Class Discussion Topics x 8
HI! I have a class of weak primary school beginners. This term I introduced a weekly ´in class discussion´ to get the kids talking. Each week I give them a topic sheet with 3 or 4 questions for homework, so they can prepare the answers. We then sit in a circle and take turns to ask the questions to each other. I use a ball that is passed across the circle and each student will have a turn to answer the question then ask another student. I usually do the first 2 questions together, then the rest only if we have time. Eg: ´What is your favourite sport?´ ´Basketball´ ´Why do you like basketball?´ etc. I have found it really beneficial because even though it is a very forced and awkward way to have a conversation, some students would say nothing if it wasn´t done in turns. You could easily change the format or topics for more advanced students. Enjoy!
