These are the materials I use to play the role-play game "Alibi" at a Lower Intermediate Level. The first page is a News paragraph and basic outline for interrogating the student Suspects who may have committed the crime. The second page can be used as a homework assignment or pre-taught before the main activity. The last page has notes for the teacher. This lesson can be around 30 minutes but my average is about 45, and with lower classes it has taken up to an hour. It focuses on the Past Simple and the Past Continuous, and using them in speech and writing effectively. Enjoy!
