Students use this simple checklist, or rubric, to guide their writing and to proofread after they´ve written a paragraph or short essay in response to a reading passage. It can be used as a guide before writing or as a scoring tool. In my intermediate ESOL class, I have students write, then score their own writing using the rubric; their challenge is then to edit and revise to achieve a higher score.
