Welcome to
ESL Printables,
the website where English Language teachers exchange resources:
worksheets, lesson plans, activities, etc.
Our collection is growing every day with the help of many teachers. If
you want to download you have to send your own contributions.
This icebreaker allows upper-intermediate students to get to know everyone in the group through short conversations. There´s a new similar worksheet with (mostly) different questions here http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=777228#thetop
Give each student a different card.
Have half the group form a circle standing with their backs towards the centre of the circle.
Have all the other students face their partners in a larger circle outside.
Clap your hands to begin the game.
Students chat for 3 minutes using the given cards to the partner they are facing. It doesn’t matter if they can’t answer all the questions. Clap your hands after 3 minutes. Students rotate 1 person to their right to face a new partner. Students begin chatting with a new partner.
Go on like this until everyone has had a chance to talk to at least 5 different people.
Allow a few minutes of free time at the end of the activity for students to mingle and discuss the things they didn’t get to cover with people they’d like to get to know better.
