Use the 5Ws to Teach English Sentence Structure!!
After 30 years of watching students struggle with the concepts of "subject, predicate, object, etc.", I decided to stop using "grammar" words and using the familiar 5Ws to teach one form of correct word order for English sentences.
I have used this technique successfully with learners from Levels 1-8 (Beginner to Advanced), and taught it at workshops in many areas of Ontario, where the teachers who adopted it have reported that it worked Very well with their classes, too.
This is one of my Monday Morning Wake-Ups, which are group, chart-based activities (including some follow-up activities) to introduce or review gambits, grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation - but feel free to use them ANY time! =)
