FairTrade - Entry 3
Fairtrade/citizenship at E3.
Skills focus - listening (gist and detail); reading/language awareness.
Lead-in
Activate prior knowledge through Q+A. Use Fairtrade logo on realia/internet. Personalise by asking if learners buy fairtrade products.
Listening 1
Show video 3 times, once for each question. Get learners to compare answers before feedback, building confidence and facilitating comprehension.
Gapped Reading
Copy enlarged text onto coloured A4 cards (different colours for each level) – one card per group of students. Stick cut-outs of missing words on walls (use same colour code for each level). Learners work together to complete their texts. Gaps should be chosen to promote language awareness rather than simple comprehension (e.g. they, them, their).
Listening 2
Learners are given cards showing key words. Instruct learner to stand. As they watch and listen they may sit down only when they hear their word to promote close listening.
