Fairytale in New York - Christmas Song
Warning: Obscene words / curse words. Recommended level: C1/C2 CAE/CPE. The lyrics can be very difficult to make out, especially when Shane sings, and the song contains lots of phrases idioms and metaphors.
Voted the number one most popular Christmas song in Britain and Ireland many times. The song itself tells a sad story of a relationship, most likely through the eyes of the man as his wife is dying. It is open to interpretation.
Students start by matching the two halves of the phrases at the top, these are the missing lines of the song.
Then they find all the underlined words in the song and match them with their meanings in the second grid.
The rest should be self explanatory. OH one extra little thing: Apparently a "Drunk tank" is a place or a cell where police put drunk people to sober up. I think itīs mainly American English, though this song may have changed that.
