CAE and FCE “SPEAKING” Preparation (songtext based) III (Prompts or “cheats” included)
Getting students to speak is often really hard. Getting them to speak to each other in an authentic, lively way is even harder. -- In my CAE and FCE preparation course, I use short extracts from pop songs for this purpose. I chose songs about nature, love, cities, relationships, people’s dreams etc. -- This can be a warming-up exercise, a relaxing exercise in the middle of a long course or a filler at the end. -- Cut the bits of text out, give one text to one pair of students and make them dwell on it for as long much as possible. Tell them to take up what the other person said, to agree or disagree, to add ideas, in order to have a lively conversation. -- What I consider really important: tell them to try hard even if the text doesn’t speak to them right away, because in the CAE and FCE exam they will never know what kind of picture or text they will get. When they have finished, they can swap with their neighbours. -- For students who have few ideas and little imagination I have added prompts for every text that will help them to explore the theme in more depth. This worksheet has teaching instructions on the last page. -- Worksheet I of this series can be found here : http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=825571#thetop . …..Worksheet II of the series is here: http://www.eslprintables.com/printable.asp?id=825625#thetop
