Concentration
This activity is based on a game known as concentration. The principle is to match cards. Print out the two sheets. Cut the sheets into their defined squares. mix all the squares together and then place them face down on a table in a 6 x 8 grid. Each student takes a turn flipping over two squares of paper. If they are able to flip over a word that matches its corresponding picture, then they remove the set and get one point. If the flipped over papers donīt match then they are flipped back and returned to their original positions in the grid. The game continues until all the word/pics have been matched. The student with the most matched sets has the most points and therefore wins. The game can be made easier by leaving the flipped squares face up so that the students donīt have to try to remember where on the grid any particular picture or word can be found. Before playing this game, teach the vocabulary to the students.
