Practice Word Emphasis with TV commercials!
This is an activity I made when I covered word stress or emphasis. And by word stress, I mean stressing words to indicate importance within a sentence! The lesson consists of two parts: watching / discussing 2 TV commercials and students creating their own commercials. First, I showed the class two American TV commercials (one for the "Snuggie" blanket and the other for the "Rotoshave" razor) and asked to to identify which words were stressed in the commercials. Second, students wrote scripts and preformed their own commercials. The requirements for the commercials are meticulously stipulated here.
Third, this was a graded assignment for my students so I included the grading criteria at the bottom of the page.
