Superbowl Commercials
Students fill in this form while watching the commercials. Teachers should plan ahead as to which commercials they will show. Youtube has some "best of" compilations.
After each commercial, students will use what they wrote to discuss them with a partner or with the class.
This is a great activity for units on advertising. I found that Doritos commercials are good for "sex sells" topics.
Car commercials work well as examples on how companies try to show an image of wealth and a certain lifestyle.
My students also found Budweiser commercials interesting. Especially the "Budweiser Bridge" commercial from 2011. It is a good example of how a beer company tries to associate their product with a wholesome, all-American lifestyle.
