Daffodils and St David’s Day
Here is a Wales based lesson to be used on St David’s day, which is March 1st. The theme is about daffodils and leeks, both of which are symbols of Wales. This listening class contains an audio from the BBC (there is an embedded link to the file), which explains the history of these two Welsh symbols of identity. It also explains how the flower is linked to the ancient Greek character of Narcissus. The vocabulary is quite intense, but the tasks have been designed with that in mind and are suitable for C1 level of English (there are also a set of questions for C2 level). For the more complicated items of vocabulary, there is a synonym exercise. The speaking section also mentions narcissism (in addition to the topics mentioned above). Answer keys are included as comments in the file.
