The Gingerboy (Draw Your Own)
This worksheet is to compliment a class on a song called "The Gingerboy" which is based on the song "The Muffin Man" and the story of "The Gingerbread Man". This happens a lot in China, so you need all kinds of supplementary material with you when you walk into the room unprepared for the shock of the day....All too often you are spontaneously asked to play a song that you learned by heart as a child in your native country only to find it is very different in China. So the kids just look at you...Soon as I can I will upload the lyric sheet.
With this worksheet I have the students draw and color their own Gingerboy´s and then have them hand them in to be "baked" overnight by me. That night I will cut them all out and write the student´s names on them. The next class I tape them all over the schoolroom in hidden places for the students to find. It is simple and easy fun and takes up the better half of the morning, giving the teacher some needed breathing room in terms of comprehension and having to keep the students occupied.
(On second check, I think sending the lyrics violate site policy, so I´ll have to skip that for now...They can be found in the KinderPower series). Also a special thanks to a fellow named OCAL at the clker.com site where most of the clipart is available for free and has been a huge life-saver for me in getting things done within my time constraints here in China.
