Find international English words
Students have to find 21 English words which have become usual worlwide. They can be read across, down or diagonally (but not backwards).
Very suitable for the beginning of a beginnersī course as it shows them that they already know a lot of English words.
Suggestion: if you have a digital or overhead projector and a whiteboard, you can have a whole-class session (maybe have a competition between the halves of the class)with you circling the words as they find them. The letter-number coordinates are useful to review these letters and numbers: tell them to signal the words they find by calling out the coordinates of their beginning and end (e.g. "B6 to B9, taxi!").
If you donīt have a projector, hand out copies to pairs or groups of students and have them compete to see who completes the exercise first.
