Word Sets
I got this idea from Ionela Tzurlica (tz.ione) who posted lexical sets. I used her idea and made a worksheet that I handed out to students , put them in groups of 4 and gave them a set amount of time to fill in as many word sets as they could. They really liked it - so much so, that I couldnīt stop them after the alloted time. They were determined to find 20 words for each set. Eventually I said I would help them out - and handed out the answer key. They liked seeing which words they missed and also which ones they found that were not listed on the key. They liked this lesson plan very much. I did not allow the students to use any dictionaries or textbooks, etc. to assist them in this task. I have put totals at the bottom of each column on the worksheet and award a prize to the group with the most words total. Thanks Ionela for the inspiration! Have fun!
