My Blackberry Is Not Working
There are 2 possible ways to use this very funny video from the BBC:
1) As a traditional listening execise, have the students watch this video, discuss the main ideas briefly then hand out the gapped worksheet and ask them to fill in as many of the blanks as they can remember. Then play the video clip again and let them fill in the remaining gaps.
2) As a more enjoyable exercise, divide the students into 2 groups for split video-listening. One group watches the video clip with the sound off while the other group listens to the audio (perhaps in the hallway or another room). The students then come together and work in pairs describing what they have seen or heard and reconstituting the story. Then hand out the worksheet and ask them to try to fill in the blanks from memory. Then play the video clip again so they can fill in the remaining gaps.
(To make a sound file, use the free Audacity software, or send me a private message with your e-mail address, and I will e-mail the audio file to you.)
What is remarkable about this video is that the audio and the video without sound are not funny on their own.

Because of the double meaning of the word "dongle," this exercise is better suited for students 18 years and older.
