Nelson Mandela´s Funerals (press article and questions) worksheet

A press article that I took from Orange News .UK. The emphasis is on written comprehension and answering questions about South Africa and getting to know more about the life of Nelson Mandela and his many achievements. I only included ´questions´ in my 2 page document but you can: -start with a warming-up such as students underlining the most difficult words and have them discuss their meaning before starting proper reading. -display pictures of Nelson Mandela and South African Landmarks to whet their curiosity or update their knowledge of the topic and have conversations beforehand. -mix the paragraphs and ask groups to restore the logical order of the article. -give a title to each paragraph. The text is usually met with enthusiasm by students and I have noticed that it is a good start to work on other topics like the movies ´Invictus´ and ´Skin´ (I also have worksheets about the Skin movie and I´ll upload them shortly). I highly recommend watching Skin and using it with the class to illustrate what the 46 years the Apartheid were like; it is based on a true story and students find it absolutely breathtaking.
