States of Matter (unit)
This is a language heavy unit based on the language used to describe the states and phases of matter. i have used this for a middle level and high level ELS science class. The experiments also invlove the standard format that most esl students will come across in a high school science class. for the first experiment the equipment is not listed but it will require a heat proof mat, a bunsen burner, tripod, gauze mat, a beaker and a watch glass. the idea is to boil the water in the beaker and melt the ice which is on the watch glass over the beaker. the language we are trying to get out of the students is ´the water is evaportating because of the heat, the ice is melting because of the heat, and the water on the bottom of the watch glass is condensation, the water is condensing because it is being cooled by the ice.´ the second experiment involves simply corn flour and water. very simple very fun, the kids love it. for more information google the experiment
