3 Steps to Writing a Speech or Essay
In Japan, a lot of junior high and high school students are expected to write and give English speeches. But what Iīve found is that they lack an understanding of the writing process, and end up either having their teacher basically write it for them, or with a very messy, ineffective end result. These worksheets include the first 3 steps of the writing process (for a speech or essay): (1) Choose a Topic (2) Brainstorm (3) Write an Outline. The next step, of course, is to write a rough draft. I tell my students that they can go back and change their topic anytime, so that they donīt hesitate to go ahead and start writing out their ideas for a topic. Hope this is helpful! (And I wouldnīt mind some additional advice for improvements on this!)
