Hi dear colleagues, Im a Belgian teacher who has been teaching English since 1999 and only recently have I discovered this website! Where had I been? ;) Well, making all my own materials that I will be posting every now and then. I hope you will enjoy it. My students (grade 4, which are 15/16-year-olds) are of an upper-intermediate level.

Irregular verbs part 1 (memory cards)
My students have to know about 160 irregular verbs. To make it easier for them to study, I have split up the whole list in 6 parts (each of about 27 verbs). Each part is copied on a different colour (heavy) paper so that studying is made easier. Students are supposed to cut out the flashcards and keep them in a little box. One side has the translat...

Writing exercise: The best thing that has happened to me during this lockdown.
This is a writing exercise that my 10th graders have to do. We have decided to only focus now on those subjects that really matter next year for our students when they have to make a more explicit choice in their studies. The students that will major in English, have to do this task. There is also a video that explains the task a bit better https:/...

Different approach to an exam (advanced level). Writing, vocabulary, grammar and culture
This exam for my 10th-formers is with a completely different approach compared to what most of you are used to. Where I live, we have to make up our exams differently. No longer closed questions (where only one answer is possible), but we have to evaluate the use of practical English in a context. This involves a lot of writing, but is actually mor...

Test: Active and passive voice (storyline fitting these days) + answer key and some feedback
This is the retake test my students had to do when they didnt reach my minimum requirement for the first test on active and passive voice (which can also be found on esl printables). It is a word document, so can easily be adapted to your needs. It has an answer key and some handy general feedback comments. This test has been given during this l...

Passive and Active voice + answer key and some feedback. Sentences related to lockdown
I used this test in our pre-teaching. It comes with an answer key and some useful feedback. I use bookwidgets for these exercises. Similar to this test is a retake test for students who did not reach my required minimum (11/15) as well as a last chance test.

Active and Passive Voice. Step by step grammar guide
I have noticed that students find this format much easier to study whether a sentence is active or passive and how to turn it into the other voice. Especially for distance learning, this has proven to be extremely useful. It is a word document, so it can easily be edited to suit your needs.

En bloc in a book. A collaborative and alternative book report. Portfolio. (fully editable)
A few months ago, my students had to choose their personal top 3 from a booklist I spent a lot of time on setting up (this list can also be found in my uploads and includes both classics and contemporary novels with blurbs). From this outcome I was able to make readers groups (from mixed classes, depending on the book they picked). As one team the...

Where the Wild Roses grow
This is a listening comprehension (with answer key) I have used for my students in year 4/grade 10 (Belgium). You will need the song by Nick Cave and Kylie Minogue to be able to use it since it is based upon this song. I have used a special technique to mark the first question, but that is just to avoid that the studens will guess (True - False que...
