What happened to Jason?
Comparing Jason in 1975 and 2005 - you can use it to practise present vs. past tense, or "used to" vs. now, or direct comparative statements (-er, more). Find as many differences as you can. Adaptable to different levels- the advanced students may be more adventurous with their comments ("He became boring!"). Good laugh!

Beginners - introduction dialogue
Dialogue exercise for beginner students. Although most people can do basic self introduction in English, they tend to stammer when they have to introduce others. After reading it a few times, substituting the underlined part with the words in the boxes, I usually get the students to then speak to each other without reading so they sound more natur...

A good song for listening exercise - clear pronunciation and most of the words are familiar. One or two new vocab, but mainly a lot of GOOD expressions (to be through with someone) and excellent to introduce metaphor (Cry Me A River, drive me out of my head). Also interesting history. I have a student who loves jazzy blues tune, heard this at the S...

The Girl from Yesterday
A good song to wrap up simple past and simple present, also to compare and contrast them, and a liiiitle bit of future tense with will (maybe to introduce it as the next topic?). Theres a word bank at the bottom of the page to help the students, but they still have to convert the verbs to the correct forms.
