1. From my humble point of view what the members from the links above have made are not ESL resources. A calendar or some images are not ESL resources: E comes from ENGLISH- an image is not an English resource.
2. What they did doesn t seem to me as inspiration , but theft /plagiarism/whatever. Changing/adding 2 (TWO) words doesn t make it original at all.
3. I agree with you: how come smth that is already published/given to be used can become smbdy s else copyright?
4. I do not understand comments like: Fantastic or Gorgeous to a set of images!!!!!!! What is so fantastic? The work of the designer/painter/drawer etc. So...how we can post such comments to someone who just copy-pasted them into one single ws?

No, it s not, dear Silvania!! You have my full support.
I advise you to report all these wss. Let s have the moderators decide!

moreover, have you noticed that some images on picasa have the name of their author written at the bottom of the images, and the name has "disappeared" on eslp??? if the name of the author is embedded in the images, it means there s a copyright... and cutting the images to delete the name of the author is theft!!!

Hi Silvana!!!
I could not agree more!!! This is why I stopped uploading links from Picasa... I think Zailda started the topic a long time ago ...( But I m not sure!!) ...
But ....please, be careful when reporting : Those who use Picasa might as well have taken ws from here!!!! I didn t check ALL the links you provided, but I know for sure Picasa has no copyright policy, & anyone can upload ANYTHING there!
Same problem with giving links to ESL sites here...I used to post quite a lot of links, but I don t anymore...
Maybe out of the topic, but I wished people wrote credits on their ws - ... We re all very careful about pics here - How about those wonderful grammar exercises ..??!! I know some moderators are really good at spotting copies from the Net ....But not from books, I m afraid!....Not from books!!
Just a thought-
Sylvie

Let me ask you something to clarify myself:
I saw 2 or 3 bookmarks in the specific section here linking Picasa albumes. Are we allowed to take clipart form these albumes provided that:
1. we state the source (maybe something like "Name of the owner, Picasa album"),
2. they don t have watermarks or the name of the author on them,
3. we add OUR REAL (and I mean REAL) activities to them (not flascards/posters) ?
I mean using them simply to decorate our wss or to relate them to our exercises (e.g. clothes, animal wordsearch/crossword, readings etc.)
Thanks,
Catalina

Let s be serious....we all take the ciparts from somewhere (some of us made them by themselves) even if we are allowed to use them ( as Philip Martin is a great and generous man) BUT we are supposed to create smth as Catalina says. Putting them in a rectangle doesn t make us creators or authors. On picassa they were flashcards too and they took them and re-made them flashcards: smaller and "rectangulared".
OR....and I think its better to ask in this case: the authors on Picassa are the same as here. In this case they have all the rights to translate them, re-arrange them, change them etc.

Hi again. Was away for a while.
I haven t reported anything yet, but the reason why I started this thread is this PM "I think you re kind of wrong... plenty of the worksheets uploaded here do just that... they are posters or pictures or stuff that have been adapted to be used in our classrooms. That s all I have left to say... I m not taking it out... and, just to be clear, I will defend my worksheet if it comes to it."
As not all the members can see the reported contributions, I want to give an opportunity to those who still want to defend themselves to do that.
What I can t understand is why people after finding sth useful and free do not post a link on the forum, but upload it as their work . |
