You are very thoughtful and considerable frenchfrog.  As I have free 30 points for daily ws, I have to choose the most useful ones for my students.  I mean the ones that have a lot of activities for my students.  Thanks for your encouragment!

You ve made your point! We couldn t have done it better! Smile

It is indeed extemely frustrating seeing teachers upload  worksheets which each of us can do in 5 minutes, but, as you ve said, it s all the more frustrating seeing them being downloaded in large numbers! Are we  that busy that we cannot take 5 minutes to google for a nice image, copy and paste it in a word doc. and write sth down??

On the other hand, we have those worksheets which have very few downloads, if any, because we can hardly see any exercises, just 5 or 7 sentences that we can easily write on the board in one minute. Have the users lost the sense of what is reasonable to upload? As time goes by, after watching the work some people have creating activities to make their students learn better and faster, shouldn t they be working harder to improve their work? Where is their pride? Those who work hard would definitely appreciate their effort!

You are absolutely right frenchfrog and I m glad that you brought up this issue obnce again on the forum.

A nice day to you all from sunny Azores.

Hello!
I agree with you frenchfrog, and I appriciate all the work and effort put in making wsh.
But lately I have got an impression that  this site is more like  participating in a "worksheet-design competition". It s like on a trade market  or in a shopping center- colourful is attractive... come and buy me...
Are all of those wsh really  practical?? A lot of those wsh have too much text on a page, too short lines to write on them, coloured background comes out dark when you make photocopies...

Hello to you all!

I totally agree with you mena, and I just want to add that it is always important to choose a good basis to your worksheet.
With this I mean that when you choose a text, a song or a movie to work with it is important that it is useful as a learning tool, for example: learning about environmental problems or healthy habits.
In my modest opinion we aren t only language teachers, we must be responsible adults that have something to teach and a class discussion/debate around important topics is always part of my lesson plans.

A Great Sunday!!!

Hello again,

I ve just read ynroko1 post and I must say that I don t think this is any kind o competion - different teachers, in different countries, different schools have different needs. Some of us, for example work with Smart Boards and  it is very important that we have colourful activities and lots of pictures. I think there is in this site lots of materials, enought to satisfy everyone s needs.
If you think about it most of us do not need any points, so we do it because we like to share - there s no other prize!

A nice Sunday for you all

I agree with mena and ynroko1.
I think too many pictures - too messy worksheet.
But today I came across one SPECIAL worksheet.
It is a craftwork - a basket, but it is
ORIGINAL and ADAPTABLE !!!
Although it looks like copy-paste scan,
IT IS ORIGINAL word-based picture, which can be changed.
Well not many people have discovered this one,
although the creator had to work on it for a while...

Because I appreciate somebody s effort, I icluded the link...

Well I didn t know we can draw own pictures as well...

You guys do great work but most of the time the wss are so overloaded with what you call "personal touch"  that it would take me way to long to clean them up - for my use.

I want my wss to be clean looking and "readable" like the ones I have uploaded.  I m not into fuzzy bears and flowers.  I teach Junior high and I need to prepare kids for High school.

Please don t be upset with me if I don t download too many of your wss.  If I find one that has really good content, then I will make the effort to adjust it to my needs.

Some of you might not even recognize your wss after I ve gotten to them.

I d really appreciate more reading comprehension wss (without grammar).

I hope I haven t insulted anyone.  If I was teaching privately I would probably download everything.

To ynroko1:

1. I think there is some sort of competition BUT let me specify what sort of competition. I dont think there is competition between members (well, there should not be any because we all do so different things! Some members are extremely talented in making grammar worksheets, others vocabulary worksheets, etc.) but I believe we compete with ourselves!! The site really has an intoxicating effect! When I started to upload materials, I got really excited about having my work downloaded and commented upon! Wow, I have 30 points, then 50, then 100, etc And then I got caught in the vicious spiral: Can I reach 500, 1000, 2000, 5000 points without repeating too much the same ideas, the same topics? It was a real challenge!! I really pushed my limits!! Never would I have thought that one day I would have over 50000 points! Never!

2. It is true that some (not all!) colourful worksheets (including some of mine) are not so good when you photocopy them in black and white (and different shades of grey!!!). Personally I more careful now about the choice of colours precisely because we give black and white versions to our students/pupils.

To Bambo:

Moravcs printable is FANTASTIC and it is fantastic not because there is a pretty picture but because Moravc gave us ACTIVITIES and SUGGESTIONS about how to use this material: you can LEARN/ REVISE WILL, COLOURS, PREPOSITIONS

You are absolutely right Frenchfrog!

For those who haven t seen  xcharo s work yet, check it out now - clear explanations, exercises and a nice clean layout that that be perfectly used as a transparency (photocopying is expansive so I persinally use almost everything I can on transparency - because I can use it over and over).

I often have to remove pictures or frames from downloaded worksheets because sometimes they disturb the students, because they have nothing to do with the topic on the worksheet, and they take away the studant s attention away from the topic.

But the pretty pictures do get our attention when looking through the new contributions...

I personally look for ws that have many exercises, or several activities, or a clean layout.

Have a great Sunday!
