"I just sued the school system"
I use this to start a year with my smart junior-high and high school students.
First we discuss the pictures and relate them to our life in general and then to the educational system. Students DO have what to say on the issue. :)
Then I show them the video WITHOUT a text and without subtitles.
Then they get a paper (one per table) to com...

"INFORMATION PLEASE" be Paul Villard
Some time ago I accidentally ran into the text on the Internet, liked it and decided to make a lesson based on it.
So, here it is.
This is the link to the online "book" I created: http://www.storyjumper.com/book/showframe/61705975/5bf848132204e#page/1
If you dont like it online, you may just print the text: http://www.telephonetribute.c...

PEER PRESSURE
I use it with my 10-11-graders as an opening to the topic "Peer Pressure". After we read the article we have a discussion and they usually get really involved in it.

Poetry brainteaser
It can be partially taught at "Conditionals" grammar lesson, but I sometimes give it to students just before we start learning and analyzing some poetry. It deprives them from saying "Poetry is soooo boring". Well, it sometimes does. :)

She went to sleep and woke up 30 years later
The text is not mine, I found it somewhere in the Net many years ago, simplified it, modified the post-reading questions, added mine together with competitive group activity which my high school students like.

Describing appearance. Stereotypes.
This activity is not really mine, our university teacher conducted something similar many years ago. I just simplified the activity and adapted it for my school students. After we learn the appropriate vocabulary, I divide the class into 2 (or more) groups and give them one of the pages with the task. While discussing and writing they arent allowe...

Past Simple through the Song
An old but still nice song to revise Past Simple. If you play the guitar, you may bring it and sing instead of listening to the song on a disc. First I ask students to try and guess the missing words just from the worksheet. My students liked it very much.
