Hi dear collegues, My name is Nadezhda. In Russian it means "hope". Once I saw a post here dedicated to our names, but, unfortunately I couldn t participate. Though, it dawned upon me how many names have their origin in Hope - since it is an essential human feeling. I was born and still live in Nizhny Novgorod - a busy city in the heart of Russia. It is situated on the Volga - one of the main Russian rivers and surrounded with forrests where one can pick up berries and mushrooms in summer. I ve been dreaming to do it since winter!!! I am 31 and have been teaching English for 10 years. I worked at school but now I am working in a university. I love being a teacher! It is so inspiring!!! I ve read all the posts and feel astonished at the geography presented here! So many beautiful places about which I read only in fiction! |

Seems as if I am late to enter this topic. I am English but have been traveling the world for the past 40 years spending 12 of them in Mainland China.
Currently living in a small town called Kota Bharu in North East Pennninsula Malaysia. Have a lovely wife and two children Esther (14) and Rachel (12)
We have our own language school and will teach anyone who pays me!!!
Malaysia is a terrible place to live with relatively low cost of living, bright sunshine every day and clear white beaches with ideal snorkeling and diving for tropical fish. So maybe you d better stay where you are!!!!! |

Hi
My name is Orit.
I will be 46 in August. I have been a teacher for the last 20 years.
I live in a subburb of Haifa,Israel. Haifa is a beautiful city, known for its co-exsistance. It is often compared to San Francisco because it is on a mountain near the beach.
I live in the same house I was born in. We are 7 generations in Israel. I live by the beach and I love going there.
I teach in the same school for the past 20 years. It is already my second home. I teach classes 7th - 9th. I love it.
I love teaching. I love people. I (generally)love this site.I think there are wonderful people here.
Orit ;-)

Hi everyone,
I m Adriana. I m from a small town in the south of Brazil called Porto Unio. It s about 2 hours and a half by car from Curitiba, which I believe some of you must have heard of. I m 34, married with 3 wonderful kids. By the way, it s my oldest son s birthday today! He s 11. The others are 9 and 6.
I ve been a teacher since I was only 15! I love what I do. I work in a language school and I also give private classes. English has been a great passion in my life.
I ve already worked as a translator and I m going to do this job again in July. I m going to Aachen, Germany.
I love this site although I haven t had a lot of time to contribute recently and it s the first time I post here! My youngest son Augusto has cerebral palsy and I have to manage time for taking care of him , for classes, for preparing them, time for my husband, the house, the kids... but that s who we are... we are teachers...we re always busy!
Thank you all for making such an amazing site,
Adri |

Good Morning,
I m Carla Minchey Horne from Athens, Georgia, U.S.A. I have always lived in the southern eastern portion of the country, but I have had the wonderful experiences of traveling to England and around Europe.
I have taught English for 17 years, and now I teach ESOL to all the ELLs in my school because I m the only ESOL English teacher here. I really enjoy this site and all the cultures represented.
I wish everyone peace and a sense of fulfillment!

Hi there! I live in France in Normandy in a town called Rouen which is the capital city of this region. It is not as beautiful as some of the pictures you ve sent but I feel good in this city. What else..... I am 32 and i ve been teaching for 7 years now. But before that I lived near London for 2 years, I was teaching French and that s how I discovered that I d love to be a teacher.
Thank you for starting this topic.
Have a nice day!!

HI There! I m Yanina, from Argentina. I live in Buenos Aires, in a city called Tigre.
A few years ago, it was an ordinary suburban city, with lots of trees and just a few people... we re next to a river and it was really nice to have some "mates" next to it on a Sunday afternoon.
BUt, as cities grow bigger, we got a casino and a funfair... and our "puerto de frutos" (fruits port, where you can find thousands of crafts made in wood and other stuff) got really big and important... and although it keeps being a fantastic and beautiful place to live, it is almost impossible to have a quiet Sunday by the river nowadays... I miss the old days.. LOL
Even tough, I would NEVER leave Tigre (you carry it in your blood when you have lived 27 years here), and I hope my son (the one in the pic) who is 16 moths old, would feel the same about this wonderful place.
Loved reading about you all and getting to know u a little bit more!
Kisses to my second family! (that means YOU!!)

Hello all.
First on the political thing... take it private, other sites, or anywhere... the one gent sounds like extremist just like my dad for the Christian right, no matter what you say or evidence you give they won t change. I want to be an extremist middle person and tell the far right and far left get out of dodge so the rest of us can have peace. When it comes to governments and media they feed us what they want us to believe and since this is a teacher site we should use it not to only teach our students but to learn about each other just like what this post was all about and glad most of you did that.
Second I like since I am a History specialist the post that added some history about their city... There are a few on here I am dieing to see because of the history in the city they live in. there is sooooo much history out there and so little time... But hope to see much before I cross to the other side. Sorry if it ended morbid. thanks for the picts that some put up, sorry I can t.
Now on me... I was born military brat, lived in 46 of the 50 states and mostly in the projects of those cities. I was a teenager when my dad retired to Florida where I spent several years in St Petersburg Florida whose sister city is St. Petersburg Russia... yep same name for the cities and both have interesting history behind them. I am currently located in Busan, South Korea for the last few years teaching English and visiting history sites. Have made it to digs at sites in Korea and just outside Bejing, didn t get to see the actual city though. I made it through parts of Japan seeing some great history sites in southern Japan around Fuokuoka, Nagasaki, Saseobo, Haribito and a couple others, saw the oldest Buddhist bell, the A bomb site and cried (not afraid to admit to that even being a guy). If you can look at what was left and faces of the aftermath and not think anything of it, something is wrong. the site is another example of why we need to ignore the extremist and let us middle porton the 80% live in peace. Looking to hit several other history sites during the summer I hope if some economics come through as well as looking at International schools at some history sites to change jobs. Yeah I teach English to fund my history tour. Love my students, indifferent of some of the co-teachers; others are a pleasure to work with. Taken some interesting pictures of those sites visited, and hope to get a better camera to take even more pictures of history sites and of my students smiles as they learn or play in the classes to share with former students, friends, family and former co-workers back home.
Oh another thing about me... I go by Bill, but there is some Native American blood in me and my Grandmother encourage me to pick a name when I came of age. I chose Dirt as my name kind of from the Bible ...from ashes we became to ashes we shall return... It is also part of Mother Earth about giving life. I am 37 currently and only finished my teaching degree in 2006 after 16 years working at it and volunteering with kids since I was a kid myself. Imagine showing up to drop your child off and there is a teenager and later adult with multicolor hair and a choke chain dog collar with a big old smile be run over by the kids as we learn and played. The immigrant adults seem to not mind it was the more conservative parents in other organizations that seem to care the most. I do look more normal now since I am out of the states, want to set a good example and try to give a better feel for Americans then what some have seen. Why it took 16 years, volunteering brought 8 great teenagers into my care and some family needed help so worked a lot. (5 boys and 3 girls with the youngest now 22 years old.) I think I typed too much... |
